Rothley Park Cricket Club have succeeded this year in winning the Division 4 championship, and are looking to move back into the higher divisions of the Leicestershire league. The stark determination and commitment from both young and old players has been clear to see. At the start of the season, the team saw a few old faces returning to the fold, and with the development of a number of younger players, it was obvious from the onset that this team were going to be very competitive for the league they were in.
Historically, Rothley has always had a good youth system, and the work and effort in previous years is clearly paying off as the younger players brought an energy and a buzz to the team. The more experienced players performed well and kept the group well motivated throughout the season. In the end both the bowling attack and positive batting helped Rothley move to the top of the league.
I know for most of the players they did not want to see the season end, and this can only help the teams promotion chances next year as Rothley look to gain a double promotion and win Division 3. A bold statement, but one I know the team believes is achievable. The target has been set and we’ll have to wait until next year to see if they can do it!
